Who: A Tribe Called Red with opener, DJ Parking Exit

Where:  This Ain’t Hollywood
When: January 24, 2013

I’m just going to come out and say this: A Tribe Called Red (ATCR)  put on one of the best shows I’ve sen in the last 12 months, and I go to a lot of shows.

This Ain’t Hollywood was quite full for a Thursday night and the party was already rolling with DJ Parking Exit bouncing on stage as I got in.

As soon as ATCR went on, the party really started. Their combination of traditional Aboriginal samples combined with current dance / dubstep / hip hop samples is unbelievable. I thought that mashups were long gone and dead in the water, but boy was I wrong.

From Rick Ross, to Ginuwine’s Pony, to the coolest Trap and Dubstep out there -the guys from ATCR wove it together with beautiful Aboriginal beats and lyrics to form something truly special.

Bear Witness, from ATCR, is a visual artist and creates stunning art that plays behind the DJs during their set. The videos seemed to be cleverly edited clips of everything from Disney’s portrayal of Native characters, to real footage of real people.

This Ain’t Hollywood was pleasantly packed and most people were dancing and head-nodding the entire time.

I’ve heard rumors about ATCR coming back to Hamilton and I really hope they do. If you missed this show, you owe it to yourself to make the next one. Do it.
