So Young are a great band from London, Ontario and they are playing the Eternal Summer fest this summer. They are actually playing this Friday and you should get your tickets if you already haven’t. So Young will join Most People and Gregory Pepper and His Problems in a backyard near you. For ticket info and more check out the official festival website.
We caught up with So Young vocalist / guitarist Paterson to learn more about the band and their summer preferences. There is some grade A summer wisdom in this Q&A session. From porta potty considerations, to next level bbq smokers and any-time makeouts – So Young know a thing or two about doing the summer season justice.
Q – What are you working on these days, musically speaking?
We’ve been writing TONS of new songs, and will hopefully be recording soon. We also just finished our first music video, which will be out later this summer and is for a brand new song that will be appearing on a compilation of London bands coming out on vinyl this fall.
Q – Which of your songs has the most summer vibes?
Probably Crushin’, off our first album. I feel like any crush/love song is good for summer. Summer lovin’ you know. We’ve also got some new songs about summer crushes that will be recorded soon.
Q – You are playing Eternal Summer in Hamilton – – can you share your favourite Hamilton related anecdote?
I played the very first Supercrawl! When I was in Olenka and the Autumn Lovers. It was freezing cold, and raining, and I was playing cello and let me tell you, it is not pleasant playing an instrument like that in bad weather. But the hidden cameras were pretty great.
Q – What would be an absolute deal breaker for a backyard / cottage party?
If someone brought their pet snake. I’M OUT.
Q – What’s the best summer festival for hook ups, or finding love?
Oh man, let me know when you find out. Probably Evolve in Nova Scotia, I bet everyone just makes out the whole time.
Q – Do you have any porta-potty use tips or some etiquette to offer?
Don’t do your drugs in there, everyone is waiting, man!
Q – What’s your favourite Ontario beach to visit?
I like Port Stanley. Mostly because they have a sweet burger place right on the beach.
Q – What are your thoughts on camping? Yay or Nay?
Yay! but I only like wimpy camping, roughing it isn’t my style.
Q – What can you make on the BBQ that you’re proud of?
I read online how to make a BBQ into a smoker, so let’s say I’m proud of my future self for doing that one day.
Q – Do you have a favourite ‘makeout point’, or a trusty spot you’ve either visited in the past or frequent today?
Dang, I can’t think of anywhere I wouldn’t make out. How could I pick a favourite!
Q – Do you have a signature summer beverage?
No-name pink lemonade. The best.
Q – All time favourite movie that’s set in the summer?
Dirty dancing. No contest.
Q – What’s on your road trip mixtape, or playlist?
Sheer Mag, Courtney Barnett, Lana Del Rey
Q – All time best summer jam?
Hot in Herrre – Nelly
